John W. Green is an Assurance Partner in the Firm’s Long Island office and serves as the National Insurance Industry Group Leader. He has many years of insurance company auditing experience and is proficient with both generally accepted accounting principles and statutory accounting principles. In addition, he is a member of its National Alternative Investment Industry group.
Mr. Green is well versed with financial reporting requirements for various types of insurance companies including the preparation of NAIC statutory financial statements. He has performed numerous consulting engagements for many different insurance entities with matters regarding internal controls and systems reviews, reinsurance accounting, configuration of premium and claims accounting systems, the installation of accounting software specific to the insurance industry and insurance investment accounting.
Mr. Green successfully led the engagement teams that served as experts to the special litigation committees for two Fortune 1000 public insurance companies that were required to restate their financial statements to correct improper accounting. In addition, he was the lead engagement partner for the Firm’s first Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 audit of internal controls.
Mr. Green joined the Firm in 2002 after merging his own practice with Marcum. Prior to spending 17 years operating his own firm, he was with a national accounting firm where he gained his initial public accounting experience. Earlier in his career, Mr. Green worked at the corporate controller’s office for a global professional services firm and the internal audit group of a leading international insurance company.
